Flat watch strap in a Mid Brown 'Russian' Hatch leather.  The strap is approximately 3.5mm thick throughout.

This vegetable tanned leather is a faithful re-creation of the famous Russian tanned leather of times past.  The recipe for tanning this type of leather was lost with the Russian revolution, however interest in it was rekindled by the discovery of the wreck of the Metta Catherina a Russian ship that sunk in a fierce storm in 1786, when it was carrying a cargo of Russian leather. It was discovered off Plymouth Sound in 1973 and the leather in the centre of rolled hides was found to be still usable after nearly 200 years underwater.  A true testament to the tanning abilities of the Russians!

The tanning process produces a slightly firmer tempered leather which is lined with beautifully soft Italian calf and produces a unique vintage look.

The strap pictured is a 22mm parallel strap with hand burnished edges and hand stitched at 2.5 stitches per cm in Cream (C2). Fitted with a 18mm plain free keeper and a polished thumbnail buckle.
